Core Web Vitals without the magic plugin
Why most “speed up your site” plugins are theatre, and what we actually do to move LCP, INP and CLS for clients.
Page speed plugins are popular because they’re reassuring. They show a dashboard with green ticks. The problem is that real-world Core Web Vitals — the numbers Google actually uses for ranking — are measured on your users’ devices, not in your admin panel.
What we actually fix
- LCP: image sizing, format (AVIF/WebP), preloading the hero, and removing render-blocking CSS.
- INP: cutting third-party JavaScript, deferring analytics, and replacing heavy interactive components.
- CLS: reserving space for images and ads, and stopping fonts from re-flowing the page.
Why this matters for SMBs
For local businesses competing in saturated SERPs, a 0.5-second LCP improvement can be the difference between page one and page two. It’s often the cheapest SEO investment you can make.
